The students of Killygarry National School are taught by a very competent, professional and dedicated teaching staff. Our pupils are educated in a modern and caring environment to enable each child to reach their true potential, where their gifts and talents are nurtured. Thank you Cavan County Council
A sincere word of thanks to Maria, Litter Warden, and Cavan County Council for all the gardening equipment they gave our school today for our Polytunnel. We now have wheelbarrows, spades, shovels, rakes, watering cans, a hose, gloves and there's a water butt on the way. Well done also to all the children in fifth class who painted for us this week and to those parents who donated paint to the school. School's Out For Summer!
The school closes on Friday 19th of June for the Summer Break. We wish you all a fantastic summer break and we look forward to welcoming all the children back to school on Wednesday 26th of August and we particularly welcome all our new pupils to the school. There'll be a bit of work going on at the school over the summer so you'll see a few changes when you return!

Graduation 2026
All our sixth class pupils performed for their Graduation Ceremony last week in the school. The day began with a rehearsal, followed by food from Smith's Diner and we finished up with the Graduation Ceremony in the GP room where all the parents attended. It was a wonderful day!

Ice-Cream in the Rain
The ice-cream van came today in the lashing rain but every child got to enjoy their ice-cream regardless of the weather.

Infant Classes go on Tour
At the end of May the two infant classes went on tour to a farm, to Killykeen Forest Park and to St. Brigid's Church to see the stained glassed windows. They all brought their teddies for the Teddy Bear Picnic.

Music on Wheels
The Music on Wheels Van came to the school last week and all our musicians performed for the whole school. It was a fantastic day in the sun!

Sports Day 2026
The children had a fantastic day last Thursday at their Sports Day in Breffni Park. There were so many games and activities on the day including races where the teachers ran against the 6th class pupils, three legged races, egg and spoon race, sack races, obstacle courses, penalty shootouts, parachute games, throw the well game, tug of war, sprints, relays, target throwing, etc.

Smoothies in Fourth Class
The fourth class had a great day making smoothies. They used many different varieties of fruit including mangos, bananas, apples, dragon fruit. They even used carrots and yogurts.

New Polytunnel at Killygarry N.S.
Our In-School Leadership Team applied for a Sustainable Energy Grant and put together a Sustainable Energy Policy and was successful in getting funding to put in a new Polytunnel at the school. The Board of Management supported the application and funded the groundworks to be done to make this possible. Cavan County Council have kindly agreed to supply us with a Rainwater Butt to collect rainwater to use in the polytunnel and a wheelbarrow and some garden tools. Cavan Tidy

First Holy Communion 2026
Congratulations to all the pupils who received the Sacrament of First Holy Communion on Saturday in the Cathedral of St. Patrick and St. Felim. Thank you to Ms. O'Neill for preparing the children so well for this sacrament and to Fr. Jordan for all his visits to this class throughout the year. Thank you also to Jenny in the Presbytery for all your support and hard work and to Cavan County Produce and the Parents Association for the Cake and Flowers.

Two past pupils in the Ulster Intermediate Ladies Final
Everyone at St. Brigid's National School Killygarry would like to wish our very own Ailbhe Kennedy and Derbhile Lynch the best of luck in the Ulster Intermediate Ladies Final which takes place tomorrow at 5pm in Brewster Park in Enniskillen. Ailbhe and Derbhile are past pupils of our school and Ailbhe has just completed her first teaching practice in the school. FTD Brothers Marathon
The FTD Brothers, Jordan and Cian Adams, ran past our school today as part of their journey of completing 32 marathons in 32 days in the 32 counties of Ireland. All the pupils came out to cheer them on with their flags, posters, bunting and balloons. Jordan and Cian Adams are completing this challenge to raise funds to find a cure for and support people with Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) and yesterday they had raised the 1,000,000 pound sterling mark. FAI Girls Soccer Tournament
Well done to all the sixth class girls who participated in the FAI 5-Aside Soccer Tournament in Bailieboro today. The girls won their first match 2-0, drew their second match 2-2 and won their third game 3-0 but failed to qualify for the final on goal difference. Thank you so much to Ms. Keaney for training the team for the past 5 weeks and for bringing them to the event today. Well done everyone!

Ficheall Chess Tournament
Well done to all the 140 children from Killygarry N.S., St. Felim's N.S. Cavan, Crosserlough N.S., Drumcrave N.S. and St. Clare's N.S. Cavan who participated in the Ficheall Chess Tournament in Killygarry Community Centre on Thursday 12th of March. There was great respect shown by all the chess players.

Wishing Killygarry GFC a very Happy 60th Birthday
All the staff, pupils and Board of Management of Killygarry National School would like to wish Killygarry Gaelic Football Club a very happy 60th birthday and we wish them well with their celebrations on Saturday night. Killygarry GFC has always been a great support to our school, giving us access to their indoor and outdoor facilities and last year they gave us a full set of Gaelic footballs for our school.
