EDUCATION

In Killygarry National School we teach all the subjects in line with the Irish Primary School Curriculum.  We teach English, Gaeilge, Maths, History, Geography, Science, Music, Drama, Visual Arts, Physical Education, Social, Personal and Health Education, Religious Education and Information and Communication Technology.  These are taught in a dynamic and modern way using new programmes and state-of-the-art technology such as iPads, Chromebooks, Interactive Whiteboards and Soundfield Systems.

English

The children learn to read and write using the excellent Jolly Phonics Programme.  Our early reading programme is the acclaimed PM Reading scheme which is levelled according to the child’s ability.

Gaeilge

Gaeilge is taught in our school using the new Abair Liom programme.  We use a whole-school approach to the teaching of oral language using the ‘caint na maidine’.

Mathematics

Practical mathematics and use of maths equipment is to the forefront of teaching and learning of this subject in our school.

SESE: History, Geography & Science,

History, Geography and Science are taught using a whole-school approach and a whole-school programme. 

The Arts

There is huge emphasis placed on the arts in Killygarry N.S.  There are many after-school clubs where the children learn to play the ukulele, tin whistle and form part of our school orchestra.

Physical Education

Here in Killygarry N.S. we have a huge array of P.E. equipment for use by the children in sports such as soccer, Gaelic football, basketball, orienteering and map reading, gymnastics and many more!

Social, Personal and Health Education

The safety and well-being of all our pupils is of upmost importance.  The staff are all trained in Child Protection and the Designated Liaison Person (DLP) for Child Protection is the school Principal.

Religious Education

Our school is a Catholic school and the pupils are taught R.E. using the Grow in Love Programme.  This programme teaches aims to help children to see how they can respond to God’s love
