Today we had a great celebration of music at the school with our Music Generation Tin Whistle players, our School Trad Group who performed in Arás an Uachtaráin in December, Eibhlín on Guitar, Faolán on the fiddle, Willow on Electric Guitar, Clara doing some Irish Dancing and Danielis and Kajetan telling us a few jokes. Congratulations to all the sixth class pupils who received the Sacrament of Confirmation on Saturday. We all welcomed a visit from the Patron of our School, Bishop Martin Hayes, to the school last Thursday and everyone had a great day on Saturday. All the pupils from junior infants to second class participated in Zumba yesterday for the first session of a five week programme. The children learned the 'Hey Margarita' song which I'm sure many of our parents know already!

Well done to the girls who won the Soccer League with their Ballyhaise Soccer Team over the Easter break and well done to Eva who got 'Player of the Match'.

Well done to all the children who won an Easter Egg in their class raffle and to Patrick in Senior Infants who won the Easter Egg Hamper. Congratulations to the five children who won an Easter Egg and a voucher for Café Mana, Smith's Diner or Cavan Swimming Pool for raising so much money in the Parents Association Sponsored Walk. The school raised €280 for Unicef last week with our colourful Friendship Day so well do everyone who supported it too.

The Senior Infant pupils, along with their teacher Ms. Finnegan and their SNA Grainne, are off to Croí Forest School on this beautiful sunny day for a day full of discovery and adventure.

The school boys soccer team are participating in the soccer blitz today in Bailieborough. They played lots of games and played extremely well. Well done to their coach Ms. Coey and thank you to Lisa for helping out today also.

Glanmore Foods, who provides our Hot School Meals, donated an Easter Egg Hamper for an Easter Raffle in the school. SuperValu in Cavan donated 8 Easter Eggs for our Raffle also. We wish to thank Niall from Glanmore and Daniel (Kajetan's dad) from SuperValu for their generous donations. The fifth class pupils visit the Junior and Senior Infants every Tuesday and Thursday for some Peered Reading and Peered Play activities. The infant classes love to see the senior pupils visit their classrooms and engage with them in a positive and fun way.

The Parents Association will be holding their annual sponsored walk on Sunday 6th of April at 11am in Killygarry GAA Grounds. Please return all your sponsorship cards and money by Friday 4th of April to be entered into a draw for a huge array of prizes on the day. We had a very eventful week in school. Each day had a theme to remind us to be: Thankful, Mindful, Look after our Well Being, Play together and Read together. Classes mixed together for Buddy Reading, Board Games, Skipping and Dancing and children got to know other children they didn't know before All in all a very friendly week! Today we celebrated Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent, in the school with a prayer service in the GP room. Fr. Mac Gabhann gave us some blessed ashes which we blessed the children with. The Prayer Service was organised by our two Assistant Principals, Ms. O'Neill and Mrs. Mc Caughey.

All the pupils in the school got to make, decorate and eat pancakes for Shrove Tuesday in the school. Ms. White and Ms. O'Neill made the pancakes in their own classrooms and Mrs. Keogh, Mrs. Mc Cabe and Mr. Lynch made pancakes for the rest of the pupils in the kitchen and GP room. Well done to Ms. Wynne who organised and co-hosted the Ficheall Chess Tournament in Killygarry N.S. today. We had 112 pupils participating in the event from St. Brigid's N.S. Laragh, St. Brigid's N.S. Killygarry, St. Mary's N.S. Virginia and Billis N.S. The children played extremely well in a very sporting manner. Thank you to our host of the day Tony also. Killygarry National School has been named Healthy Heroes Star School for February 2025 for their efforts in promoting healthy eating. Our school has come first among hundreds of primary schools across Ireland also participating in the Healthy Heroes initiative, supported by the Irish Bread Bakers Association (IBBA) and Bord Bia. The programme aims to educate children on nutrition, physical activity and how to maintain and enjoy healthy lunchtime habits, in school and at home.

The Parent's Association are holding a table quiz on Friday 7th of March at 7:30pm in the Meadow View Bar and Restaurant in Cavan. Each team will consist of 4 members and will cost €40 per team. There will be a raffle at half time, prizes for the winning team and refreshments served. The Parents Association would greatly appreciate it if every family could put in a team and if prizes for the raffle could be donated. We look forward to seeing you all there.
