1916 Proclamation Day

Today every child in the school celebrated Proclamation Day.  The day began with every child dressing up in 1916 clothes.  The children then participated in a concert in the community center where the fourth and fifth class pupils performed the story of the 1916 Easter Rising for the rest of the school.  The third and sixth class pupils sang ‘Grace’ during the performance.  The junior infants then took to the stage with their poem ‘lámh, lámh eile’, the senior infants performed an Irish song and dance, first class told the story of what life was like 100 years ago, second class performed ‘I’ll tell me ma’ and two sixth class pupils read their own poems written about 1916.  At 1pm the Irish Flag was raised by Sergeant David Ryan from the 6th Battalion.  Sergeant Ryan is a parent in the school and we were honoured to have him raise our Irish flag today.  Six fifth class boys read the Proclamation and a sixth class girl read the proclamation written by the sixth class pupils for 2016.  The flag was raised while the children sang Amhrán na bhFiann and the school orchestra played.  Congratulations to all the pupils and teachers on a wonderful day of celebrations.
